Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, causing pain, inflammation, and potential fertility issues. Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine technique, has emerged as a complementary therapy to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for women with endometriosis.

How Acupuncture Can Help

Acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system, regulate the immune system, release endorphins, and balance the flow of energy (Qi). For endometriosis, acupuncture may offer several benefits:

  • Pain Reduction: Acupuncture can help reduce pelvic pain, menstrual cramps, and other pain associated with endometriosis by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers.

  • Inflammation Control: By modulating the immune system, acupuncture may help reduce inflammation in the pelvic region, a key factor in endometriosis-related pain and discomfort.

  • Hormone Regulation: Acupuncture may help regulate hormone levels, particularly estrogen, which plays a significant role in the development and progression of endometriosis.

Recent Studies

A recent study published in August 7, 2024, indicates that acupuncture is effective in alleviating dysmenorrhea and pelvic pain associated with endometriosis, reducing serum CA-125 levels, decreasing the size of nodules, improving patients' quality of life, and lowering the recurrence rate. Disclaimer:

It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment, including acupuncture. Acupuncture should be considered as a complementary therapy and not a replacement for conventional medical treatments for endometriosis.
